Questions Asked in SSC CGL Tier I 1st September 2016 Shift 1 – English Language:

The level of English Language Section was moderate.
Reading Comprehension
The exam had 1 reading comprehension passage and 5 corresponding questions. The passage was based on the story of stone age people who spent their time weaving. One of the 5 questions asked in the exam were: What is the meaning of ‘privilege’?
Fill in the Blanks
The questions had one blank each and you had to choose the correct option to fill in the blank. There were 3 questions in total. These were similar to the questions asked in SSC CGL 28th August Shift 1 exam, which are:
Health is too important to be _____.
I am _____ of this crime.
Synonyms and Antonyms
Around 3-4 questions synonyms and antonyms questions appeared in the exam. These questions were easy. These were similar to the questions asked in SSC CGL 28th August Shift 1 exam. From what we can see, most of the words that have appeared in the paper until now have already been covered by Testbook’s Word Power Capsules.
For eg: What is the antonym of Vanity?
What is the synonym of copious?
Spellings
There were 1 spelling correction questions. These questions were pretty easy and had words used in day-to-day life. The question was similar to the ones usually asked.
For eg: How is the following word spelt? –Acquisition
Error Correction
They absented themselves for two days.
  1. Were absented
  2. Had absented
  3. Absented
  4. No error
Phrase or Idiom Meaning
It was an easy to moderate set and involved straightforward questions. You had to explain the meaning of phrases/idioms like: Stone’s throw away, bone of contention and give oneself air.
One Word Substitution
You had to substitute the statement given in the exam with a word.
For Eg: Declared as outside the protection of the law? – Outlaw.

Questions Asked in SSC CGL Tier I 1st September 2016 Shift 1 – Quantitative Aptitude:

The questions were similar to the ones asked in earlier exams. The level of the quant section was easy to moderate in this paper. Most of the questions asked in the quant section were like those asked in previous SSC CGL exams 2016. Example of some questions from this exam are:
If a + b + c = 6 and ab + bc + ca = 1, then find the value of ab(a+b) + bc(b+c) + ca(c+a) + 3abc.
Average of 12 numbers is 9. If we multiply each number by 2 and then add 3 in each number, the new average will be?
(251 + 252 + 253 + 254 + 255) is divisible by?
X+1/x= 2 to (x+1/x)²
If tan45°= cot x, then find the value of x in terms of pi.
The ratio of radius of 2 cylinders is 3:2. The ratio of their height is 3:7 what is the ratio of their volume?

Questions Asked in SSC CGL Tier I 1st September 2016 Shift 1 – General Intelligence & Reasoning:

This section was quite easy in the SSC CGL 31st August Shift 2 exam. Some of the questions appeared from previous years’ questions papers. A number of questions were asked from series. There were 5 questions in non-verbal reasoning – 1 on paper folding, 2 on mirror image and 2 on water image. Rest of the questions were similar to the questions asked in other SSC CGL Tier I exam this year. Some examples of these questions are:
How can Birds, Parrots, and Bats be represented by Venn diagram?
Select the odd one out: Herb, Tree, Shrub, Flower.
All crows are swans. Some swans are ducks. Conclusion – I. All ducks are crows. II. Some swans are crows.
If 324 + 289 = 35, 484 + 441 = 43. Then 625 +400 = ?
A man had 17 goats, all but 8 died. How many does he have now?
If there are any questions that you remember from your SSC CGL Tier I exam, then please let us know in the comments.
